Planning Application for Change in Turbine Type & Crane Pads

RG Developments has submitted a planning application to Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council to amend the blade diameters and also slightly amend the crane pads for the consented Smulgedon Wind Farm.

As these are the only changes, this Amendment Application:-

  • Does not increase the overall height of each wind turbine as a smaller tower will be used.

  • Does not increase the number of wind turbines on the site.

  • Does not change the location or positions of the wind turbines from the original planning consent.

  • Does not change the access tracks or any associated infrastructure.

The proposed change of rotor (blade) size will facilitate the installation of more modern turbines which are more efficient in terms of generation capacity, reflecting the changes and improvements in turbine technology that have occurred over the last eight years.

Irrespective of the outcome of this latest planning application, it is anticipated the building of the seven wind turbines will take place early 2022.
